Start at the bottom and deal your way to the top!
This is a clue-focused Bob Jenkins deck, starting out with discard for effect, play from discard, and recursion cards - which then slowly evolve into a high-powered resource and exceptional cards as Bob gains experience. It attempts to take advantage of Bob's free action to play an item asset almost every turn, and therefore contains a lot of slot-free assets, as well as assets with discard effects that can be cycled.
Key cards and interactions:
-
Short Supply lets you start with some cards already in your discard pile, giving you something to work with from the word go. You should be able to play Winging It or Fortuitous Discovery from the very beginning, or use Resourceful, Scrounge for Supplies, or Scavenging to dig up the exact card you need. Scavenging is especially good here because so many of our cards have the item trait.
-
Combine Gravedigger's Shovel, Lantern, and Mysterious Raven with your recursion cards to always have access to on-demand damage and clues. These two cards are more or less free actions to play each turn if they are being picked up with scavenging and played using Bob's free action. They cost 1 resource once Shrewd Dealings is in play (and are free if you upgrade into The Fool • 0).
-
Schoffner's Catalogue and Faustian Bargain are your resource engine, and your protection from Greed.
-
Use Leather Coat and Liquid Courage to protect yourself (or drink away the pain).
-
Track Shoes, Elusive, and Manual Dexterity are there to help you get around some of the baddies!
Key upgrades:
- Lockpicks is a great for an almost guaranteed clue once a turn. Replace Mariner's Compass.
- Replace Mysterious Raven with the ally of your choice: Lola Santiago, Gené Beauregard, or even Joey "The Rat" Vigil.
- Other quality of life upgrades: Lucky Cigarette Case, Manual Dexterity, and Well Connected
- Resource cards: Bob's access to high level rogue cards lets him get some very powerful resource acquisition cards. Consider upgrading into Hot Streak, Easy Mark, Another Day, Another Dollar, or my favorite for Bob, Pay Day.
- Once you have more resources than you know what to do with, think about acquiring some high-value assets. The Gold Pocket Watch, The Red Clock, Eon Chart, and Lucky Dice are all great exceptional cards that you can play using Bob's free action.
- Consider picking up Relic Hunter to hold all of your new accessory items!
- The Fool • 0 is also a great pickup for Bob, and when combined with Shrewd Dealings, all of your items 2 cost or less are free!

Oct 10, 2022Something to keep in mind about playing Short Supply in Bob is that Shrewd Dealings can't be recurred from discard. Even if you hard mulligan for that card, it will still wind up in your Short Supply discards 23% of the time--nearly 1 in 4 games. So if your group strategy relies on Bob to bring items to put into play for other players, you won't want to play a Short Supply deck. Outside of that, this is a pretty cool deck! |
One thing I left out of the write up: you can build up a lot of additional actions using The Red Clock and Eon Chart. Because these are both item assets, they can be pulled out of the discard with scavenging, and they can be played using Bob's free action. They also synergize with Pay Day for a big payout. You could also use Joey "The Rat" Vigil's discard ability to cycle Eon Chart multiple times!
