Idea: In this deck, Calvin takes advantage of Monstruous Transformation. Because MT sets his base statline to 2/2/5/5 instead of 0/0/0/0, it grants him a 14 stat benefit, where it would otherwise grant an investigator like Jenny's 3/3/3/3 a 2 stat benefit. The problem is, we only get ONE MT and without it, Calvin just can't cluever or kill much on Expert difficulty. The worse part, he can't even take MT until later in the campaign!
Therefore, Calvin needs to play support to a multiplayer team that has him transition into a Killer/Cluever/Support. And, in exchange for the support, would probably love some No Stone Unturned sent his way.
His support tools are: "Let me Handle This!", Thermos, Heroic Rescue, Delay the Inevitable, Guts/Overpower/Perception and "I'll see you in hell!" which becomes Stand Together.
Essentially, Calvin is slowing everyone down with his very presence, making bosses have more HP, increasing the number of clues required to progress, and drawing an extra card from the encounter deck. In order to mitigate this burden, as Dr. Calvin, we will be healing allies, buffing their skill checks and taking on spare enemies. This will let Rex (or whatever cluever you pick) grab nearly twice as many clues per turn and take additional risks with his health and sanity pool. This will also let Zoey (or whatever killer you pick) take on monsters at her preferred pace (particularly during the early Machete days). At the same time, while taking on these early game threats, he is getting stronger (taking damage) while buying time for his friends to setup!
He's no fool, taking some of the best cards in the game: Fire Axe and Ward of Protection.
He also wants to cycle through his deck as fast as possible in order to find the MT. For that, we have Rabbit's Foot, Second Wind, Take Heart, Stand Together and Guts/Overpower/Perception.
Because we are playing on Expert, Stray Cat's auto-Evade and low cost are much appreciated (-8s don't matter when you aren't digging in the bag!).
Five of Pentacles is just a no-brainer auto-include FFG invented to make Calvin playable.
Okay, now you are probably asking, why am I building a deck that is dependant on one card, that I probably wont get to use 30% of the time and will only have access to for 6 scenarios? The answer is this: if you do get the card, all of a sudden you are probably a naked 5/5/8/8 stat line and all those cards you got as a support still work! If you do not get it, you are still able to accelerate your team and delay their deaths enough to cover your presence.
Upgrade path: 2 Flashlight > 2 Five of Pentacles (1)
2 Rabbit Foot > 2 Rabbit Foot (3)
2 "I'll see you in hell!" > 2 Stand Together
The rest is super situational depending on where you are in the campaign, but take a hard look at Blood Eclipse.
Context: Expert Multiplayer (Ideally with a Seeker who also needs No Stone Unturned (5))
Piloting the Mulligan: Keep Five of Pentacles, Rabbit's Foot, Stand Together, Take Heart. If no MT, keep Fire Axe
Piloting the Deck: Because your team has a support, this is no longer a sprint, but a marathon. Keep people healed up, don't worry too much about dead turns, and it is okay if you die NEAR the end (scenario dependant). Calvin is the only gator in the game happy to give everything including his life, so take advantage.
Scenario Path: Start the Curse of the Rougarou as soon as your team has enough EXP to confidently beat it. Make sure you are lead investigator.
I'm confused by 2x Second Wind and 0x Leather Coat. Surely Leather Coat wins in a Calvin deck. It costs 1 less, can be played proactively, doesn't harm your combat/agility stats, and even protects your more expensive assets (Thermos, lol) from the mythos deck.
The single extra card draw really isn't worth it. Especially as you're expecting a Seeker with No Stone Unturned (5), and Drawing Thin is now in the card pool.
