How it plays (level-0)
Your job: patrol, keep enemies off Minh, grab the odd clue safely, and turn evades into tempo.
Default turn shape
Spot trouble → If an enemy is around, Evade first (Agi 3 + commits).
Profit off the evade → Pickpocketing (0) for a card; Lucky Cigarette Case (0) if you beat the test by 2.
Finish or erase →
- Backstab for clean 3-damage (no succeed-by needed).
- Sneak Attack for testless 2-damage on the exhausted enemy.
- Cheap Shot when you want damage and an auto-evade in one action (commit to hit big).
- Close Call after a clean evade to discard a non-Elite (amazing vs Hunters; don’t use on Victory enemies).
- .41 Derringer / Switchblade as repeatable backup when you don’t want to spend events.
Clues without risking Minh → Flashlight on 2–3 shroud spots (later Lockpicks (1) on tougher shrouds). Don’t over-investigate—Minh is your clue hose.
Engine & economy
-
Lone Wolf: end the previous round one location apart from Minh, trigger Wolf at the start of your turn, then use your first action to move back and bodyguard.
-
LCC (Lucky Cigarette Case): think “stack the deck.” Any test you’re taking anyway—especially evades—aim to beat by 2 so LCC keeps your hand gassed.
-
Emergency Cache: use when an event turn is coming (Backstab/Sneak Attack) or when installing Leo De Luca (he’s great once you’ve got Wolf online).
Combat lines (quick recipes)
- 3-HP: Backstab; or Cheap Shot (2dmg if big success) + Switchblade ping.
- 4-HP: Cheap Shot (2dmg on big success) → Sneak Attack; or Derringer twice.
- Boss/Elite: Evade-lock with commits; chip with Derringer/Backstab; leave the coup de grâce to Minh’s I’ve Got a Plan! once she’s loaded.
Parley & treacheries
Parleys skew Intellect/Will; with Minh at 4/4, let her take most of them. Use Guts to patch your own Will treacheries; save Jenny’s actions for board control.
Hand slots & signatures
- You’re running 2x one-hand weapons + Flashlight early; plan what you’ll overwrite.
- Jenny’s Twins are for emergencies and elites—events carry most of your damage.
- Searching for Izzie: don’t tunnel. Plan a mid-scenario detour when the map is safe; if it’s going to cost the scenario, accept the trauma and keep the train on time.
Upgrades change the feel
-
Lockpicks (1) replaces Flashlights—use it on real shroud, not freebies.
-
Streetwise (3) later means “pass Agi/Int on demand”; that also turns Switchblade into a reliable 2-damage poke on succeed-by.
-
Pickpocketing (2) (later) adds resources to your evade loop; LCC (3) digs deeper for answers.
Mulligan guide (priority order)
Lone Wolf or Lucky Cigarette Case (engine first).
An enemy answer: Cheap Shot, Backstab, or .41 Derringer (at least one).
Pickpocketing (0) (turns every evade into draw).
Flashlight (only if the opening location looks 2–3 shroud).
Leo De Luca (keep only if you already have Lone Wolf or Cache to afford him quickly).
General mulligan tips
Hard mulligan to find one engine (Wolf or LCC) + one answer (event or gun).
If you see Close Call but no evade piece or commits, ship it—Close Call is win-more after a clean evade.
Against enemy-dense scenarios, favor Cheap Shot/Backstab over setup pieces.
Upgrades
2 XP (total 2)
Lockpicks (1) ×2 → replace Flashlight ×2. Single-clue control on any shroud; fuels succeed-by for LCC.
+3 XP (total 5)
Streetwise (3) [Permanent]. On-demand +3 to Agi/Int for 2 resources = panic button. (Streetwise isn’t chained in v2.4, so it’s still 3 XP. Fantasy Flight Games )
+4 XP (total 9)
Pickpocketing (2) ×2 → upgrade both Pickpocketing (0). Every clean evade = card + resources = gas for events.
+4 XP (total 13)
Hot Streak (2) ×2 → replace Emergency Cache ×2. Front-loads cash to feed Streetwise + Backstab turns.
+4 XP (total 17)
.41 Derringer (2) ×2 → upgrade both .41 Derringer (0). Reliable repeatable damage when you don’t want to spend events.
+3 XP (total 20)
Lucky Cigarette Case (3) ×1 → upgrade one LCC (0). Deeper digs on succeed-by turns = faster answers.
Quick notes (taboo & play)
Quick Thinking is “max 1/round” under the taboo—still great for tempo, just don’t plan double-procs. Fantasy Flight Games
If you want Close Call (2) later, swap it for Think on Your Feet (pair = 4 XP); if you do, push the Derringer(2) or LCC(3) step by 4 XP.
Nothing Rogue you’re buying here is chained in 2.4; Pathfinder (Seeker) is +1 XP now, but that’s Minh’s problem.
