Our buddy Leo needs a friend to find some clues for him while he punches the mythos into submission. Sure he could be partnered by a healer to keep him healthy and sane after staring right into the eyes of unspeakable horrors, a mystic to seal away the worst of the chaos bag or a seeker, a class whose job is all about discovering clues. Or...
Meet Leo Anderson’s sparring partner, Finn Edwards. Clues? Yes. Also punching things with Knuckleduster? Oh yes. Whereas Leo demonstrates the taking it on the chin approach to dealing with Retaliate, Finn illustrates that enemies can’t hit what they can’t see. With a free Evade action, any enemy engaged with Finn at the start of the turn can expect to be exhausted shortly after, depriving them of the ability to Retaliate at all.
Once again Knuckleduster is included as the go to weapon for its unmatched unconditional +1 damage bonus. While this really is the only weapon we need, we are forced to also include Finn's Trusty .38. If we’ve forgotten where we put our Knuckleduster (“Silly me, it was in my hands all along”) then enemies can always be dropped off for Leo to take care of. Or, being highly illicit, maybe they’re Finn’s Smuggled Goods.
To help duck and weave we have Trench Coat, which also provides some damage soak should an enemy manage to land a blow on Finn. Peter Sylvestre was tempting for the agility boost and horror mitigation, but the splash slots were needed for seeker cards.
Hard Knocks can go either way, boosting combat and agility, and allowing the Knuckleduster to connect more often. Overpower likewise can help out either of our two pugilists. Fight or Flight is a singleton, but is a late game card for when (a) Finn is starting to lose his marbles and (b) a boss has shown up that needs more pumping than Leo can dish out alone.
Of course getting to a boss requires some investigating. Finn’s intellect of 4 might make you wonder why he’s part of a crew relying on Knuckledusters, but he’s smart enough to pack a pair of Flashlights and enlist the help of everyone’s favourite doctor-professor Dr. Milan Christopher. Working a Hunch and Perception further heighten his sleuthing skills.
Smuggling and bootlegging are profitable ventures and Lone Wolf, "Watch this!" and Emergency Cache all generate cash to funnel into Hard Knocks or pay for allies.
Hatchet Man plays to Finn’s dodging strategy by adding extra damage to help deal with pesky three health enemies or an extra point of damage against a boss.
Unexpected Courage needs no explanation besides running Knuckleduster definitely being unexpected and surely lying somewhere on the courageous/foolish spectrum.
Rogue staple Leo De Luca will happily offer Finn more chances to fail to hit his enemies while Thermos completes the deck with a little healing, although with one willpower Finn might be looking for something a bit stronger.
Love it! Great use of Knuckledusters again, an underused and under appreciated weapon.
