The Dreamlands await! Curiously the campaign is structured differently than usual and to take advantage of all the scenarios one needs two different investigators. I'm always playing as Jenny in these blind runs of mine and thus I'm tempted to play as Jenny A and Jenny B, but... the new investigators are so tantalizing. Then again, none of them seen particularly suited for solo games... Let's think narrative-wise. Jenny could hire Tony to look for her sister, that's an easy one. The campaign is supposed to be about dreams so Luke is an easy fit as well. However, I think I like Tommy the most. There's a story there, with Jenny being a mentor figure to Tommy and him being eager to prove himself in her eyes. Yup! Let's go with that. We'll make an old-school deck for Jenny. There are only four scenarios so I expect the campaign to be generous with XPs. That means no Delves and that in turn means I can slot in Drawn to the Flames.
Jenny dreams her dream. It's about playing cards. Fitting, eh? I don't think she can play Leo without having six resources, but there are other choices.
Jenny begins the scenario with 4 resources and Lone Wolf in play.
Pre-Mulligan Hand: Jenny's Twin .45s, 2x Intel Report, Emergency Cache, Hard Knocks
Opening Hand: 2x Emergency Cache, Hard Knocks, Unexpected Courage, Drawn to the Flame
#1
- Lone Wolf
Jenny's done the impossible and took resources from Lone Wolf in turn one! Not to mention, with two Emergence Caches we ought to have our resource needs covered for the entire scenario. Sadly, there's not too much to spend all those riches on just yet.
- PLAY Hard Knocks
- INVESTIGATE (-1, 1 clue from Seventy Steps)
- DRAW Elusive
- Upkeep: draw .41 Derringer, 5 resources total.
#2
- Mythos: 2/19 doom
In essence we're trading no encounters for an additional doom. There's only one Agenda, so I don't think that trade is worth it. I'll try to have Jenny move away from the Step locations as soon as possible.
- Lone Wolf
- PLAY .41 Derringer
- MOVE to The Cavern of Flame
- Advance Entering the Dreamlands
Oops! I should've known from then illustration. Jenny sees two hooded figures and I see two enemies. Thankfully, both are aloof and can be parlayed. Of course this makes is the fourth campaign in a row where Fine Clothes are useful in the early scenarios.
- PARLEY (commit Unexpected Courage & Elusive, , flip Kaman-Thah)
Spiffy new dress! The surroundings are all fiery and so Jenny is going to imagine herself an ash-colored finery that glitters in red and gold as if there were tiny dying embers interwoven in the material. In addition to that she's going to wear polished brass bracelets and a heavy-set diadem with etched numbers and letters.
- Upkeep: draw "Watch this!", 5 resources total.
#3
- Mythos: 4/19 doom, × The Cavern of Flame (1 damage)
- Lone Wolf
- PARLEY (+3 , "Watch this!", bid 3 resources, , gain 6 resources, flip Nasht)
I'm quite sure Jenny's display contained some fire-bending. Nasht is suitably impressed while we get to easily refill our resources.
- Advance The Trial of Nasht and Kaman-Thah
- MOVE to Seven Hundred Steps
- INVESTIGATE (0, 1 clue from Seven Hundred Steps)
- Upkeep: draw Perception, 8 resources total.
Well, OK, but I would really appreciate some assets. It's safe and now is the time to play them.
#4
- Mythos: 6/19 doom
- Lone Wolf
- PLAY Emergency Cache
It's excessive, I know, but at the same time I would feel bad to discard it.
- MOVE to Base of the Steps (-2, discard Emergency Cache, 1 horror)
- INVESTIGATE with Perception (0, draw .41 Derringer, 1 clue from Base of the Steps)
- Upkeep: draw Jenny's Twin .45s, 14 resources total.
#5
- Mythos: 8/19 doom
- Lone Wolf
- MOVE to The Enchanted Path
- Advance The Final Descent
Shroud 8!
- DRAW Flashlight
- Upkeep: draw Psychosis, 17 resources total.
Board State Reminder: 7 health, 6 sanity, 17 resources, 0 clues
In Play: .41 Derringer (3 ammo), Hard Knocks, Lone Wolf
In Hand: Drawn to the Flame, .41 Derringer, Jenny's Twin .45s, Flashlight
Threat: Psychosis
#6
- Mythos: 9/19 doom, Crypt Chill (, discard .41 Derringer)
Yeah... In retrospect that's a misplay. I should've thrown Lone Wolf to the wolves. With so many resources remaining there was no reason to deprive Jenny of her weapon.
- Lone Wolf
- The Enchanted Path
It's an extremely action-intensive endeavor. Where is Leo? Will he appear if Jenny thinks of him?
- Upkeep: draw Overpower, 20 resources total.
Seriously! Why do I even run these?
#7
- Mythos: 10/19 doom, Dreamer's Curse (commit Overpower & Jenny's Twin .45s, +1, draw Searching for Izzie)
OK, that's a good opportunity to discard these icons. The potential damage is capped at three so that curse is actually rather mild. However, Jenny is not going to search for her sister. That's a surefire mental trauma, but I'm committed to staying on the path.
- Lone Wolf
- The Enchanted Path
- Upkeep: draw Leo De Luca, 23 resources total.
Hello!
#8
- Mythos: 11/19 doom, Dreamer's Curse
- Lone Wolf
- PLAY Leo De Luca
- PLAY Drawn to the Flame (Furtive Zoog, 2 clues from The Enchanted Path)
Aw. That means I'll most likely won't find the time to discard Psychosis. Hopefully we'll reach the resolutions before it becomes relevant.
- FIGHT (+3 , 0, defeat swarm)
- FIGHT (+3 , , defeat Furtive Zoog)
Bare-handed! Jenny scared them off them so fast she almost certainly missed Zoogs' taste for meat.
- Upkeep: draw "Watch this!", 14 resources total.
#9
- Mythos: 12/19 doom, Deep Slumber
Very thematic encounter, but I don't think it will have much of an impact on our game. Jenny has no real need to hold eight cards in her hand.
- Lone Wolf
- The Enchanted Path
- DRAW Intel Report
Nice!
- Upkeep: draw Hard Knocks, 17 resources total.
#10
- Mythos: 13/19 doom, Law of 'Ygiroth (Pandemonium)
Nothing important has an odd number in its title, but I could definitely see situations where this card is crippling. I assume adding it to the hand doesn't trigger Deep Slumber, does it?
- Lone Wolf
- The Enchanted Path
- PLAY Intel Report (2 clues from The Enchanted Path)
The buzzing bees, cute little bunnies and other assorted critters told Jenny all she needed to know.
- Upkeep: draw Lone Wolf, × Deep Slumber, discard Lone Wolf, 16 resources total.
Board State Reminder: 4 health, 6 sanity, 16 resources, 4 clues
In Play: Leo De Luca, Hard Knocks, Lone Wolf
In Hand: Law of 'Ygiroth (Pandemonium), .41 Derringer, Flashlight, "Watch this!", Hard Knocks
Threat: Psychosis, Deep Slumber
#11
- Mythos: 14/19 doom, Lost in the Woods (commit "Watch this!", 0), Lost in the Woods (-2, lose 1 action, 1 horror on Leo De Luca, × Psychosis, 1 damage), Dreamlands Eclipse
It's an entire barrage of new encounter cards! Jenny is getting a bit overstretched. I could attempt to stabilize, but I'm just one clue off from the end. I think it's worth it. Let's spawn that clue.
- Lone Wolf
- The Enchanted Path
- Upkeep: draw Perception, × Deep Slumber, discard Lone Wolf, 19 resources total, discard Dreamlands Eclipse.
#12
- Mythos: 15/19 doom, Deep Slumber
- Lone Wolf
- DRAW Leo De Luca (× Deep Slumber, discard .41 Derringer, Hard Knocks & Flashlight & Leo De Luca)
- DRAW Intel Report (× Deep Slumber, discard Perception)
- PLAY Intel Report (1 clue from The Enchanted Path)
- Advance The Path (R2).
Done! Given how the choices are presented I think there's no way Jenny stays passive. We're interrupting the tribute and hopefully it won't irritate the cats too much.
Zero XPs! I've got nothing else to say. Not even a single complimentary XP for finishing the scenario. We'll see whether Tommy does better over in Scenario 1B.
Campaign Log:
Beyond the Gates of Sleep: Jenny parleyed with the Zoogs! 0 XP, 1 Mental Trauma.
