I played hollow eyes in my caster daisy deck in a 2 seeker game (rex was using the insecticist) and i really like her, for her static boost and ability. Knowing what encouter card is coming and preparing for it can save you.

  • Compared to Scrying, activating her is a free action and she does not have charges.
  • In multiplayer, you can look at the next encounter card during any player window (if she is not exhausted). So if a player draws an encounter card with a skill test, you can look at the next card. This may be helpful to protect a specific player. However if the player before him does not open a player window, her ability may be wasted for that turn.
  • Tr"Ashcan" Pete's smelling salts also work on her.
  • Her bonus is a good for Jim Culver's balanced stats, so he saved charges on Rite of Seeking for higher shroud locations
  • Her bonus does not help agnes so much, as her is rather low. You can compensate this, with other cards, like Perception, Flashlight, "Look what I found!" or Rise.

Dealing with her doom:

  • Moonlight Ritual can remove all doom on her. As a spell, her friend can find it (use Charisma to have both hollow eyes and her friend in play at the same time).
  • Her ability does not advance the agenda, so her doom does not matter, if the agenda would advance the next turn anyway.
  • If you discard her before the agenda advances, her doom will not matter. However she costs many ressources to play, so this is a waste. Smoking Pipe is a quick way to dispose her or her friend. You can also show her some Forbidden Knowledge to make her run away.

Alyssa Graham is a great card in any kind of deck that can play cards. For 4 resources, which is not that hefty in the game and playable on turn 1, you get a action giving you all the intelligence you need for your next turn.

Without even considering that you can bury that card at the bottom of the encounter deck for a tiny Doom token, it's already good.

But what's more, you actually can bury that encounter card if you don't like it.

Her static boost is of +1 is nothing to sneeze at. Intellect boosts are always good. You want to grab clues in this game, right?

Finally, I think Alyssa really shines in a Marie Lambeau deck. Marie's ability requires that you have a doom token on one of the player cards you control. Alyssa gives you a reliable way to get that token running, from the get go. She gets Marie to a very high 5 , on par with Daisy Walker, thus solo-enabling Marie. Here is a sample (solo) deck: arkhamdb.com

There is one part of the analysis that I strongly disagree with: "4 resources, which is not that hefty in the game and playable on turn 1" — Alleria · 112
(Sorry comment got cut). 4 resources is among the most expensive cards in the game, very few cards cost 4 and more. Besides, if you play it on your first turn, it means that you are actually not playing anything else (like Shriveling, Rite of Seeking, Arcane Initiate, or Holy Rosary for example). Mystics dont really swim into money as they need expensive assets out to be useful. In other words, i don't see 4 resources to be "not that hefty" in any deck, and especially not in Mystic deck. It's actually very expensive. — Alleria · 112

A couple useful tricks:

--With Luke Robinson as lead investigator, he can use a Gate Box charge (in the enemy phase, after Dream-Gate's end-of-investigation effect would've passed) to discard a nasty enemy seen with Alyssa

--Peril only applies while resolving an encounter card, so when you see a peril you can confer openly to pre-decide on peril choices without detracting from gameflow the way that trying to pre-decide normally does

In solo play her ability to foresee the future for relatively cheap makes her damningly powerful. Never again shall the mythos deck contain nasty surprises that you aren't ready for. Hell, sometimes it's even worth losing a turn if the card that threatens to come out is that bad. This effect is easily enough to justify her exorbitant costs, assuming you splurge for some ways to boost your income.

Now I think in multiplayer her role changes slightly. Sure knowing what's coming will help someone in the party survive, but it's a diminishing effect when you're pulling 4 encounter cards a turn. Here I think Alyssa is better served as a guardian angel for particularly time-sensitive weaknesses. Keep Zoey or Roland from pulling their signatures when the clock is running out, or keep watch over the person in your group who has a large pool of resources they're saving for something and a bit of a paranoia streak.

Finally the 'bonuses' of +1 books and a decent sanity body aren't too shabby either. Of course, both of our current Mystics are well equipped to deal with horror, but it doesn't hurt. Plus sometimes you just have to investigate.

Is she better than Skids? No, but she might certainly be worth charisma in solo, or if you're just not the Skids guy in multiplayer she's worth the open ally slot.

By skids here I of course mean Leo de Luca. — Difrakt · 1267
I think you can edit your own reviews (skids -> leo). — Django · 4859
I had the same thoughts about the diminishing effect in multiplayer, but the opposite is true. I think she is hands down THE BEST multiplayer card out there. When you play with 3 or 4 players, each player is usually specialised in one thing - statwise or combat -. The ability to (usually) competely nullify the effect of an encounter card is insane. Also you can use it as a safeguard to protect people with low sanity or health, to give them non-damaging encounter cards. — aramhorror · 690

I was playing mythos draw like investigator phase, letting the team choose draw order differently each time. But in reality you must abide to the In Player Order rule, starting from the lead investigator then going clockwise always. Therefore an ability that reveal just 1 top card like this basically means seeing what's destined for the lead investigator. (What I was playing is supposed to be Gloria's special ability.)

At the same time to play with this card it is important to realize that the lead investigator could be changed each scenario, not fixed for an entire campaign. (my another wrong impression) It may matter when replaying a scenario when you know the density bias of encounter set, so you can choose the right person that could see the future through Alyssa. Or you can make the person with the most risk (e.g. full of trauma) to be the lead and continue protecting that investigator with Alyssa.

Just knowing the treachery is powerful as you can exploit its condition. For example something along the line of "attach to your location, nearest location with.." : You reposition and force it to have favorable choice you want, "lose resources" : You spend all the resources ahead of time.

Adding doom is expensive, but generally imo just having never out of charge way of looking at it is enough to improve the chance of dealing with the encounter massively (e.g. just group up to prepare commit icons), as opposed to Scrying and "miss" because you don't see anything interesting. Doom bury is just an extra icing to cheat a certain defeat that you see revealed, like an Elite enemy coming up when no one is equipped to fight.

Lastly doom is placed on Alyssa and not the agenda. It is not hard to put 1-2 horrors on her early so she can die swiftly with the doom if you are forced to use it.
