Cunning Distraction is a placeholder for Trial by Fire.

What kind of insanity is this? Playing Baseball Bat and Able Bodied in Wendy? Trust me, it's going to make sense.

So, recently, Fantasy Flight previewed the card Trial by Fire for the fifth mythos pack of TCU. While fans of Calvin Wright and Preston Fairmont already can't wait for this beauty of a card, I had a slightly different take.

A little while back, I found myself playing Wendy Adams and having some real issues with enemies. A of 1 doesn't exactly inspire fear, and it's nigh-impossible to get it high enough to threaten enemies without sacrificing a lot of deck slots. However, Trial by Fire changes this.

With Trial by Fire, we can have a of 5 for one turn at the cost of 3 resources. Combined with the Baseball Bat, we can help our team beat up on big bad jerks by hitting at a 7 and 2 damage per swing. Wendy can use her own ability to reduce the odds of the bat breaking.

Now, should we face smaller enemies, we can try to use the bat with Able Bodied to attack at a 6 (we'll only ever have one item in play). And of course, we can always just run away.

In addition, if we need a buff getting clues, we can use Trial by Fire to set our to 5 for one turn, which is quite respectable too. And Wendy being Wendy means she can always just throw the card out to redraw a chaos token.

The rest of the deck is quite flexible, depending on what you prefer. Sneak Attack and Backstab are interchangeable, though if you change them, make sure to drop out the Hatchet Man. You can also play more Waylay. And Take Heart is a card I could see being played here, it's just hard to find the slots and I usually play on Standard, where failing tests don't happen too frequently.

Upgrades can go many ways, but if you want to keep killing things, swapping the Baseball Bat for Ornate Bow makes you no longer reliant on your . You can then replace the Trial by Fire with Will to Survive and the Able Bodied for something else (maybe with Adaptable).

However, because the above is at least 12 XP, it'll probably take at least 2 or 3 scenarios to complete all the swaps, and until then, you can keep on smacking things.
