This deck looks like it would be fun for multiplayer, throwing in just a few Mystic cards to manipulate the chaos tile bag. A lot of cards have only one copy, but it has many ways to search the draw pile to make up for the lack of consistency. Please comment with any suggestions or improvements!
Find lots of clues
- Knowledge bonuses on Dr. Milan Christopher, St. Hubert's Key, Whitton Greene, and Death • XIII can potentially bring her to 9 (!)
- More bonuses from Fieldwork, Perception, and Deduction
- Eventually obtain a Higher Education and decode the Archaic Glyphs to learn the Guiding Stones spell. These can net a few big clue hauls, possibly in concert with a Premonition (more on that below)
Defensive cards let her mostly operate away from a Guardian
- Pulling most of the weight is Occult Lexicon/Blood-Rite, which features testless damage and even has card draw as a bonus.
- Also a Spectral Razor, which can come in handy against pesky aloof enemies
- If all else fails there's punching and evasion via Mind over Matter.
- To manage sanity loss and the encounter deck there are Ward of Protection, Deny Existence (similar, but no sanity loss), and Fearless.
Two-pronged resource economy and search for cards as you need them
- First is the tried-and-true Dr. Milan Christopher, who boosts your investigation stat and pays you back for hiring him.
- Astounding Revelations grant 2 resources when you play a Research Librarian. You'll also likely come across them via the plethora of search cards: Old Book of Lore, Whitton Greene, Calling in Favors, and Eureka!.
You'll succeed more often through manipulating the chaos tile bag
- Ritual Candles softens the blow of the worst tiles, so you should see fewer failures.
- If the Candles are in play they combo nicely with Olive McBride's power to pull 3 tiles / keep 2. But don't bother drawing or playing Olive unless you can precede her with the candles!
- After some XP you add in 2 copies of Premonition, a game-changer
- Finally you throw in Recall the Future, which can help you get a couple grand-slam results after you see the tile from your Premonition (or if you get lucky with a common tile in combination with Olive)
Cards to keep in your opening hand
Occult Lexicon, Old Book of Lore, St. Hubert's Key, Dr. Milan Christopher, and Whitton Greene. If you don't have an Old Book of Lore consider keeping a Research Librarian to search for one on your first turn.
Suggested path for spending first 13 XP
-
4xp Miskatonic Archaeology Funding is a permanent, so you don't need to swap any cards out. It is key to using the many allies this deck features to search the draw pile and to soak up sanity damage.
-
3xp Pathfinder swap in for Shortcut
-
1xp Death • XIII swap in for a copy of Deny Existence
-
3xp Old Book of Lore (3) upgrade only one copy for the secret tokens that provide discounts. [Why upgrade only one? You'll draw the upgraded version half the time anyways, and if you search your deck then it's the obvious choice, saving you 3 xp versus upgrading both]
-
2xp Whitton Greene (2) upgrade only one copy for the stat bonus and improved search
Suggested path for spending up to 25 more XP
-
6xp Ancestral Knowledge, which pulls aside 5 valuable skill cards, and then puts them into your hand for no actions. It also removes those 5 skill cards from your draw pile, so you're less likely to see them in your opening hand or mulligan. Add in another Fearless, 2 Premonition, Archaic Glyphs Untranslated, and Inquiring Mind. Note that the Premonitions now let you do some amazing things and combo well with the other Mystic chaos bag cards.
-
2xp Recall the Future is the final piece of Mystic cards to manipulate the chaos tiles, swap in for a Research Librarian
-
3xp Archaic Glyphs: Guiding Stones (3) upgrade, so that it uses an arcane slot instead of a hand slot while providing extra clues
-
6xp Higher Education is a permanent, no substitution needed
-
2xp Deduction (2) is an upgrade
-
2xp Deduction (2) is an upgrade
-
2xp Perception (2) is an upgrade
-
2xp Mind over Matter (2) is an upgrade
-
other ideas worth consideration include Backpack (2), Dr. William T. Maleson, Emergency Cache (2). And I'd be pleased for any suggestions you can make!

Mar 30, 2022strategy memo 2: if Olive doesn’t work out in practice or is too situational substitute Grotesque Statue (2) |
Mar 30, 2022XP memo: Field Work is probably a wasted card; maybe swap in a second copy of Shortcut from start. One will be cut from deck on early XP spending and the remaining copy will stick with deck a little longer |
strategy memo: try to avoid cantrips / blood-rite until some of the Astounding Revelations are in the discard. Drawing it is a dead card that also means no free resources!
By the same token play as much deck search as possible with early use of Whitton, Eureka, Librarian, and Old Book of Lore.
