So, you want to play as Carolyn Fern, eh? Well, buckle up buttercup, because this is a dedicated cluever deck with little to no ability to deal with enemies. So, you better find yourself a fighter to protect your ass.

The first thing you gotta do is empty your deck with some good ol' fashioned card draw. You gotta get both Field Agent and Hallowed Mirror in play ASAP if you want to get about two test-less clues each turn. That's the key to this deck, baby.

Now, listen up, 'cause this is important. The Field Agent are like your ride or die in this deck, so you gotta use your healing on them selfishly. Don't be a sucker and fall into the healer trap. Carolyn Fern is best played as a cluever, and you can use healing on others only as a last freakin' resort. And make sure you shuffle Soothing Melody back into your deck after you use it, or you'll regret it later.

To really make this deck sing, you gotta use Safeguard to move for free onto locations with clues. And don't forget about Summoned Hound, Deduction, and Inspiring Presence to get some extra clues. Summoned Hound is the shit, man. It's cheap as hell at one xp and can be used to get clues without using up an action. Plus, it can take down weaker enemies like a boss. So don't be afraid of the Unbound Beast. Just get your fighter to deal with it.

Now, let's talk Mythos phase. Ward of Protection, Take the Initiative, and Promise of Power should be enough to survive that shit. These cards will help you avoid or mitigate the worst effects of the Mythos phase.

You might be wondering what the upgrade path for this deck is like. But fear not, my clue-seeking friend, for I have laid out a path for you to follow.

To get to the core of the deck you'll need 29 XP, but only 10 XP is essential (26 and 7 with In the Thick of It). Anything above that is just icing on the cake.

  1. Alice Luxley x2 into Field Agent x2 (choose Alice Luxley over Dr. Milan Christopher as you don't really need the resources and she can have some small use from time to time)
  2. First Charisma
  3. Hallowed Mirror into Hallowed Mirror
  4. Perception into Death • XIII (not really needed at lower difficulties)
  5. Stand Together x2 into Stand Together x2
  6. Second Charisma
  7. Shortcut into Summoned Hound
  8. Logical Reasoning into Kerosene
  9. Perception into Ever Vigilant
  10. Stick to the Plan

Once you've completed the above upgrades, you can move on to upgrading into Magnifying Glass and Safeguard, followed by Emergency Cache. Keep in mind that Emergency Cache is only to get the setup going faster but is not really needed for resources. If your team needs help with enemies, you can change Emergency Cache to Dynamite Blast. You can also consider adding Keen Eye to help with high shroud locations at higher difficulties and against the Mythos as you have spare resources at the end of scenarios.

So, there you have it. Follow these tips, and you'll be a clue-getting, Mythos-surviving machine. And if all else fails, just swear like a sailor and hope for the best. Good luck, you crazy son of a bitch.
