This is a standalone-ready flex build to show what Wilson is capable of to those thinking of playing him.

If you're interested in the road I took to get here, scroll down to the how it all started section.

Wilson might not look too appealing to people who have played Jenny and Lola with their all 3's statline.

However, he's secretly a 3/4/4/3 investigator when using the right tools!

With the good old Fire Extinguisher, you're fighting at 5 with +1 damage.

The humble Lantern also comes in for just 1 resource and lets you pretty reliably deal with 3 shroud locations. If you think of the math in a different way, it's like you're investigating at 5 .

Grete Wagner raises all those tests to 6's.

The staple Hallowed Mirror lets you heal Grete or others.

If you're able to put down a Well Prepared with some of the above, you should be passing most of your key tests:

If you can't find your Well Prepared, the Wolf Mask does a really good imitation.

Mulligan

Hard mulligan for your tools. They're your bread and butter, and the only tutor you have for them is Backpack.

Because of that, consider taking In the Thick of It for a 2nd Backpack, replacing Perception. Alternatively, if you want to flex into the healing role more, you can go for a Surgical Kit.

How it all started

I tried out several different builds:

I ultimately settled on the deck you see on your left as a simple middle ground.

What's the dream combo?

You have Ad Hoc on your tool of choice, preferably a one-handed one that you've Tinkered with. You use it to fight or investigate, discard a Pitchfork, pass a fight at base 5 and then spend an action to pick it up from your location.

Alternatively, you do the same thing with a Sledgehammer and then recycle it with Pushed to the Limit for another 3 damage without giving up any hand slots.

In the 5 or so games I've played the deck, not once have I found both halves of the combo. The issue is card draw in , and the fact they're not a combo class.

can do it with Lucky Cigarette Case and while you do have access to Lockpicks to oversucceed, what you lack is the ability to turn that into reliable tutoring.

Let's move on to the next archetype.

How well can he fight?

Unfortunately, he isn't very reliable as a main fighter. Aside from having the Skids problem of fighting at 4 with a Machete, both two handed weapon are slow and clunky to use. This becomes a problem if you have to deal with multiple enemies or even one who has more than 3 health. I've tried to Tinker with a Hatchet to soften up big enemies before finishing them off, but I could never draw Tinker in time. He can't get any of the big guns due to being restricted to 0-4.

If you go the Fire Extinguisher route, you can't find it with Prepared for the Worst, and you can't really wait for Tetsuo Mori to die before an enemy shows up.

His signature weakness Hasty Repairs is brutal if it shows up at the wrong time. I was in serious trouble every time I drew it during upkeep and had to deal with an enemy next round. It asks you to have several testless ways of dealing with a potential enemy, like Toe to Toe and Guard Dog, that you're just praying you don't draw your cards in the wrong order.

How fast can he pick up clues?

As a cluever, he's very reliant on getting a hand asset in play before he can start being useful. You're hoping to draw Well-Maintained before the last key goes, cause you don't have the usual recursion. I never drew Alice Luxley, so I can't comment on how often you can use her ability as a panic button with Gravedigger's Shovel.
