After my beloved Daisy, I wanted to try an investigator with more access to the mystic cards - my second love after the seeker ones. So I got inspired by Auckmid and built my deck following the general rules he explains, like balancing assets, events and skills, balancing the card factions etc, considering that 1) I do own only one core set, 2) I haven't opened the Carcosa Mythos packs yet, 3) I hate drawing additional encounter cards.

I tried this deck with the first two episodes of the Carcosa campaign and it worked really nice, allowing us to end the scenarios nicely even though my bf's Roland deck was really poorly working - aka I had to run to save his ass the whole time. To choose the cards to put in it, I looked to meet these needs:

  1. Fight. So, to Fight, I have the Gravedigger's Shovel and the Baseball Bat. Classic. 1 Shrivelling was all I had to use willpower to fight.
  2. Defend. Having only one Shrivelling in the core set, I kinda wanted to be ready to defend from attacks in other and various ways, so I put a Leather Coat, 2 Hypnotic Gaze, probably one of my favourite cards, a Ward of Protection, Defiance... all meant to defend from nasty stuff, possibly getting some interesting bonus in the meantime.
  3. Boost my skills. I also wanted to focus on boosting my two best skills, i.e. willpower and agility. So here it comes stuff to boost willpower (the Holy Rosary, Fearless and Guts) as well as stuff to boost agility and evading chances (Peter Sylvestre, Survival Instinct, Blinding Light). Of course Unexpected Courage was a must-have.
  4. Ease the use of expensive spells with Uncage the Soul and trigger additional nice effects with Resourceful, which allowed me to play Lucky! twice.
  5. To heal, in addition to the already mentioned Fearless, I added Painkillers and the Smoking Pipe, which revealed useful when used together to balance the received damages and trigger Agnes ability.

With the first 4 exp points I got from the first Carcosa scenario, I decided to boost my mystic side by adding the 3 exp version of Shrivelling, which was absolutely necessary, and a card that I rarely find in other people decks, but that really helped me in the second episode, Spirit Athame. I think this card is generally underestimated, since it gives you a free +2 to any skill test involving a spell, each turn, which is basically a free which could trigger up to 15 times in my deck; it might seems a minor improvement since willpower is already Agnes best skill, but starting from a basic value of 7 for up to 15 skill tests doesn't seem so bad to me - succeeding one time more, saving a card instead of committing it, resolving the additional effect of a successful test instead of wasting a committed card, etc. Not to mention its use as a basic knife, which is clearly minor, but can also save a Shrivelling charge now and then.

So, this is it for now. Let me know what you think and feel free to give me any suggestions you might have ^^
