What Marion Tavares lacks in limb, she makes up for in creativity and grit. A sailor and a sleuth. A tactician and an improvisor. A cutthroat captain and a determined drifter.
Get one of Marion's Nautical Charts in her lonely hand slot as soon as possible. Even if she misses on her mulligan, she's Ready for Anything and churns through her deck quickly by playing lots of events, which should help her get her hand on one early.
Her second Nautical Chart and her Hand Hook are played and pitched from her hand for extra clues and to do some fighting. With Pushed to the Limit, she'll play them again from the grave and recur them back into her deck, where we'll probably see them again, thanks to her consistent card draw.
Improvised Weapon and Winging It are both stronger when played from the discard pile, making them ideal fodder for the Nautical Charts and Hand Hook discard abilities.
Sleuth buffs Marion's Nautical Charts skill tests and helps her pay for her constant stream of events (since so many of them are tactics).
Once she has a Chart in her hand slot and plays any event, she can "Throw the Book at Them!" as her , fighting with +3 and triggering the on the Nautical Charts to get clues, which in turn triggers Alice Luxley's for an additional damage... all actionless!
That's powerful enough that she'll want to target "Throw the Book at Them!" when shes Scrounging for Supplies.
If the waters of her deck are choppy and she's having trouble finding her Nautical Charts, she has plenty of other events to keep her busy while also providing draw for the charts. Improvised Weapon and One-Two Punch help her deal with the monsters of the deep, while Winging It and Task Force help her dig for clues.
Both Bide Your Time and Task Force are nice action economy for Marion, since her makes them both effectively single-action plays, mitigating their main downside of normally requiring two actions.
Defensively, Marion is Ready for Anything, and can Take the Initiative when she's sailing through the mythos deck. She'll also want to form a Trusted relationship with her first-mate Alice Luxley for the additional soak. Finally, Hallowed Mirror gives her Soothing Melodies, which provides all-purpose healing for her and her crew, and as a 0 cost event, is practically free with her .
The life of a one-handed 1920s New-England sailor-woman isn't one of wealth & luxury, but between her Sleuth discounts, Emergency Cache, and Clean Them Out, she should have enough coin to scrape by, one port city at a time.
As for early upgrades, Marion wants to prioritize getting her Reliables onto her Nautical Charts, and reaching her True Awakening, which is a great event to kick off a sequence.
