This was built as the second deck in my, "KoDaMoJo Investigates (with each investigator)" challange for The Path to Carcosa with a Mandy Thompson (Big Deck Energy) partner. This deck is shown with Versatile (2), and you could take In the Thick of It to start with the full deck and Four of Cups (1) or Spirit Athame (1). Otherwise remove some combination of: Alyssa Graham, David Renfield, Arcane Studies, Delve Too Deep, Scout Ahead, Sneak By, and Drawn to the Flame.

Why add Versatile? Because you're removing (hopefully) 5 cards to your gallery, which is the amount added by Versatile; because you get to start with (presumably) 8 cards in your opening hand; because you draw 2 cards a round when you evade, and you have enough spell to pull with your initiate whenever you need to; and because the cards you add are useful in a variety of situations, and work in several different cobinations.

Because it was paired with Mandy as a clueverer, the Wind of Invisible Voices deck doesn't have to include Investigate. events—Breaking and Entering is there because playing to Sefina's strength's is too good to pass up. Alyssa Graham and St. Hubert's Key get you up to 4 , and you still have Arcane Studies in the early scenarios, if you need it; and in truth, you can drop Faustian Bargain instead of studies for Moxie once you get your economy up and running with Crafty. Speaking of economy...

Deck Economy

Most of your economy is baked in with Robes of Endless Night and Uncage the Soul, and virtually all non-spells are Trick. or Insight. events for Crafty. Add Another Day, Another Dollar after the first scenario and you start the rest of the campaign with 7 resources (barring a tough weakness draw).

You'll usually get 2 resources a turn when Lone Wolf is out, and this drip increases to 3 resources (or up to 5 if you're comfortable with that much doom management) for as long as you have David Renfield. But he's fiddly in this deck as you want him in play early and probably for the duration of the first agenda, and I much prefer Alyssa Graham; I'm more comfortable with Four of Cups for the static +1 anyway, given Sefina's propensity for snagging it in her opening 13 cards.

This leaves Sneak By and Faustian Bargain as a resource spike. The 5 resources is well worth the 2 bargain, but why mess around with curses if you don't need to? If you happen to have too much XP lying around you can side-grade to Hot Streak, but honestly this deck doesn't rely on big money—just a consistent amount to pay for second spell events in a turn or emergency taps on Arcane Studies or Moxie. You even have the luxury of upgrading Sneak By if you want a second copy of something.

Deck Build

Because Wind of Invisible Voices was built to partner with a heavy clueverer who also had some enemy management my priorities were:

  1. Enemy management
  2. Encounter Deck management

I am a beginner with encounter deck management, so I didn't dive too deeply into it here, preferring to lean into a flex deck.

1. Enemy Management

You have two options to deal with enemies: Evade. and/or defeat, and you are going to use a combination of both. Evading is also your card draw from Pickpocketing, and it's pretty reliable. What you don't want—and I can't stress this enough—is to get to the scenario's end and be forced to fight with your Spirit Athame (or, gods forbid, the Ceremonial Sickle). Those weapons are good for rats, low-level acolytes, and the finishing blow on some enemies, but for anything else you want decent firepower.

You'll be running with 7 with upgrades and everything in play (4 skill + St. Hubert's Key + David Renfield/Moxie + Four of Cups ). Spirit Athame gives you a further +2 skill value on spell tests, and you can always commit skills. Here are your blast spells, use them wisely.

Is that enough, you ask? Well, on a good day you have either or both events in your gallery and can use The Painted World, and you can recur events with De Vermis Mysteriis if you go that route. On a particularly bad day the assets slip into your discard. Having a backup Shrivelling is not a terrible idea, and you can sacrifice David Renfield to include it or even Quantum Flux if you find your tempo obviates the need for managing Stars of Hyades.

You definitely want to eliminate hunters, bonus points for herding them into a single location and unleashing Storm of Spirits (there's a version of this deck with greater enemy placement)—otherwise, you need to be discerning about who you hit or wear them down with Blinding Light (or its riskier upgrade). You'll also occasionally get some splash from Hypnotic Gaze (and especially it's upgrade . Hopefully, your partner has some tricks (as was the case when I built this). And you may have to resign yourself to not taking on the boss elite.

Your other enemy management tool is your : if it's not a hunter and doesn't have Victory. on it, it's probably not worth your time. Your Evade. events are Blinding Light, Sneak By, and Breaking and Entering. Sneak By gives you a couple bucks for your trouble, and you can change this out for a second Blinding Light, but I think it's be more useful to upgrade it to Breaking and Entering (2). In any case, Breaking and Entering is your greased lighting: with everything in play you are testing with 5 + 4 (4+2 skill + St. Hubert's Key + Alyssa Graham + Moxie), making the chance to pull the upgrade back into your hand very doable.

ALTERNATE BUILD: Sneak Attack combos well with Blur since you can use the extra action to damage enemies.

2. Encounter Deck Management

Admittedly, this is pretty light but straightforward. Use your BFF Alyssa Graham as often as you feel comfortable managing the doom. Besides your bestie, you have Deny Existence and Ward of Protection. The lack of other card resources is due to me not yet feeling comfortable managing doom among multiple sources and really not knowing how to use other tools to their maximum utility.

Assets & Skills Upgrades

This is the upgrade path:

Optional Upgrades

These are just really nice to have, and can push the deck in different directions. While upgrading to De Vermis Mysteriis is listed as optional because it is not essential to making the deck work, it makes the deck purr.

Events

All the event upgrades are optional, though very nice when you can afford them.
