Lolfinity or: How I Told Minh to Hold My Lavender Cosmo
Credit: Tony Foti and Magali Villeneuve
Don't worry, I have permission from @Valentin1331 to do this while he's on vacation. I think.
So I hear y'all are into the combos these days, and Valentin had one last week involving Minh reading books and drawing her whole deck over and over. So I took a look at it, and yikes, inspiration struck involving Will to Survive, and I've done a few Lola Hayes decks in the past, and Valentin is on vacation this week, so bing-bang-boom, you're welcome.

So you see, my friends, Minh Thi Phan is kind of overpowered as an investigator. She's a Seeker and all that. On the other hand, Lola Hayes is not overpowered according to all of you fine folks. So a deck like this, it'll help you absolutely demolish the Mythos without playing an overpowered investigator. And you'll probably win $20 in a bet along the way.
Pretty awesome, am I right?
What you want to do here is draw a bunch of cards, play some cards, then go infinite with Knowledge is Power activating Archaic Glyphs to discover clues and play assets for free while drawing your whole deck over and over with all the actionless card draw you can muster. This includes Improvisation by the way. Then you sprinkle in some Eon Chart recursion with Sleight of Hand for more actions, along with Hit and Run to drop Leo De Luca into play for more actions. Will to Survive is your chaos bag protection, meaning the autofail cannot stop you.
-
Pretty cool, huh?
-
How do I do it???
-
Just draw. A lot. Scroll of Prophecies is good for getting started or for drawing hard with Knowledge is Power. Laboratory Assistant draws. Dream-Enhancing Serum draws. Surprising Find draws. Protecting the Anirniq draws. Free cards and free actions, that's how you win!
-
Practice Makes Perfect gets really interesting, especially if you hit a Surprising Find along the way. The ideal target is Perception, but grabbing a Three Aces or Promise of Power for later use is cool too.
-
Sleight of Hand is useful for dropping an Eon Chart into play for another action, but Dr. Elli Horowitz can do that too after coming into play with Archaic Glyphs.
-
Three Aces are in there to help kickstart the engine. Use them as soon as you get all three and are conveniently in the Rogue role. They even remove themselves from the game, so as to not clog up your deck afterwards.
-
Hit and Run is a little trick for dropping Leo De Luca into play for more actions. Use Hit and Run to get soaks into play along with the Glyphs.
-
Improvisation is very useful for getting extra role swaps in case Crisis of Identity blocks your combo.
-
Oh yeah, Cryptic Writings pays for everything.
-
You know what's cool?
Fast stuff can be played during any fast window.
- This means you can:
- Play Knowledge is Power to begin a skill test
- Play Practice Makes Perfect in the first fast window
- Commit some more cards
- Play Improvisation in the second fast window
- Play Will to Survive
- Start singing Gloria Gaynor
- Don't draw tokens for the rest of turn (game?)
Protecting the Anirniq, aka 2xp Cryptic Research:
- So when Crisis of Identity discards an ally, that's your trigger for Protecting the Anirniq. The fun trick happens because you have to "nest" the Protecting the Anirniq while resolving Crisis of Identity. You end up going:
- Draw Crisis (which can occur mid-resolution of another thing)
- Choose to discard an ally
- Play Protecting the Anirniq
- Draw three cards (see warning below)
- Resolve the rest of Crisis, discarding the top card of your deck and changing role. Hopefully that's still Seeker, just to keep things tidy.
Warning: Nested Crises of Identity will break your brain. You've been warned.
-
Shrivelling - I guess you might have to defeat some enemies?
-
Promise of Power - this is a general-purpose skill for passing whatever you need at the time. It's also Practiced, meaning that you can pull it into your hand with Practice Makes Perfect.
-
You're saying you want to go beyond 22xp?
-
Use Permanents like Studious, Another Day, Another Dollar, and maybe even Stick to the Plan for a faster start. With enough Permanents, Cheat the System starts looking like a pretty good way to bolster her resources.
-
Friends in Low Places has some slick combo potential. Roles kind of restrict Lola's ability to make use of Swift, but between Prompt and Versatile, that's a lot of draw, though costly.
-
There are all sorts of fun assets that Lola can put into play (not play!) with Archaic Glyphs. There might be a pretty hilarious high-XP Sign Magick build in here.
-
Upgrading the Cryptic Writings can only be helpful.

Jun 03, 2023Many prophesied it, you realised it. One way to use Lola Hayes better than anyone else. Cool deck, a lot of great combos and synergies. Thanks for taking over for this week! |
Jun 03, 2023How does Dr Elli help with archaic glyphs? |
Jun 03, 2023
|
Jun 03, 2023That's correct! I found that I needed another asset to provide soak and to be dropped into play with Archaic Glyphs, so Elli provides soak, sometimes an action if she finds an Eon Chart, and sometimes a Surprising Find trigger. |
Jun 04, 2023Love this! Had considered PMP plus Three Aces in a Parallel Skids deck but don’t I have to immediately commit an Ace if I find it with PMP? You imply that I can instead hold the card “for later use.” I’d love for this to work—please let me know if I’ve been misinterpreting it! |
Jun 04, 2023Hi there! So, Lola's restriction prevents her from committing cards that are not of her current role. If she plays Practice Makes Perfect, she is a Seeker at the time, meaning she is (likely) unable to commit a Rogue card like Three Aces. The rules jury is not back in yet on whether her restriction, since it's not a hard "cannot," is overruled by the text of Practice Makes Perfect, by the way. If so, that opens up a whole new world of Lola tricks... However, Practice Makes Perfect does actually allow you to find a Practiced card that can't actually be committed to the test. You'd just draw it rather than discarding it (which is already kind of weird) if the test is successful. |
Jun 05, 2023Ohhhh…Lola things. Thank you for your quick and helpful reply. You’re always a great contributor to the AH community and I appreciate everything you do. |
Jun 06, 2023Aww, shucks! Thanks so much |
Jun 06, 2023I agree that if able can be read ambiguously, but as I know, the card need to be committed for returning hand after test.
|
Jun 06, 2023Hello! I'm concerned that you cannot declare an inappropriate target while playing Practice Makes Perfect. I'm sharing a comment from FFG. Q) Is it allowed to intentionally choose an inappropriate target? A) You must choose a card you can commit. |
Jun 06, 2023Eh, I'm just calling it as I see it. |
Jun 07, 2023Hello! :) could you suggest a guide on how to get to this deck starting from level 0? I would like to start a campaign with Lola :) |
Jun 07, 2023Hi there! To be honest, this deck really isn't meant to be taken seriously as a deck to actually play through a campaign. It's an exhibition of some of the more overpowered facets of the card pool, showing that when they are combined, they can cause ridiculous outcomes. That all said, maybe one of my other Lola Hayes decklists would be what you are looking for? I also did an interview last year with Los Archivos de Arkham about the building blocks of Lola Hayes decks... The podcast may be in Spanish, but the conversation about Lola is in English! player.fm |
Jun 08, 2023This is a cool idea! Especially using knowledge is power to use the trigger on a non-seeker asset without switching classes is a cool idea. I'm not 100% sure if that goes against her restriction on triggering abilities, but since you don't pay the trigger cost it seems like it might work. For the upgrade path, I don't think you can use stick to the plan as Lola though since it's a reaction trigger that occurs before you decide on your class. |
Jun 08, 2023Fun fact! That old email ruling about Lola not being able to activate Stick to the Plan, that got reversed recently! It's posted here on ArkhamDB (thank goodness) in Lola's page. |
Dec 03, 2023Hey, I was not sure if you are still active and still playing. Amazing deck, great work. I miss your very well produced YouTube videos, last was hexbreaker what has been a while. Hope you will be back someday with a new series. |
Dec 05, 2023Hey there! Glad you enjoyed the videos! To be honest, though, my interest level in Arkham Horror has really fallen off. The powercreep in the game has gotten out of hand, and I don't really enjoy the game when playing multiplayer anymore. The last straw for me was attending a Blob That Ate Everything Else event, and the Blob was down in under two hours out of three allotted. You know, powercreep :( |

In the good ol' days when you played (mostly) Lola and then someone else 2 handed (okay, in TCU you strayed away from that) with a custom introduction and really going with the story, I really liked it. You had a great way to explain stuff and also it was no problem to listen to you for 1-2 hours, it was very enjoyable. I am happy, I was able to actually give you this feedback, even if it might be a bit out of place here, since this is not youtube. Pretty unfortunate to hear you lost your interest in this game and will most probably not produce another series. Just let me tell you that I actually found my interest in AH LCG because of your videos in the first place. I would never have bought any cards if it weren't for you, so thanks. |
Dec 05, 2023I echo thakaris's sentiments and many of his specific points. I'll add that while I've been playing since 2017, I'm still unskilled enough that power creep has a long way to go before it's in issue for me! But, yeah, your tweaking of Lola (long before her taboo) was genius and your broader contributions to the community will be missed. Fingers crossed that some time away is all you really need, but I respect your decision in any case. |
OMG! I knew something like that would happen as soon as I saw Minhfinite last week. Good work, BTW
