The goal behind this deck is fuel Minh's ability by packing as much draw into your deck as possible. This ensures you have a full hand of cards to aid yourself or your allies at any time. Minh's ability may not look like much on paper, but it is disgustingly efficient, especially when combined with Analytical Mind.

Card Choices:

Draw:

Laboratory Assistant

We don't need Dr. Milan Christopher, because our deck doesn't cost any money. Therefore, we run Lab Assistant to fill our hand and ensure nothing is discarded from hoarding! Incredible synergy with our deck.

Strange Solution

Draws 2 cards fairly easily for the first campaign, but these should be upgraded to the Combat Strange Solution variant as your first upgrade. That card is disgustingly overpowered and makes Minh better at combat than a Guardian. Seriously, compare it to Lightning Gun.

Preposterous Sketches, Skill cards (cycle)

Fill your hand so that you can always use your ability. It is important that you can contribute towards every test type at all times.

Combat:

"I've got a plan!", Mind over Matter, Overpower

Combat is light until we get our first upgrades on Strange Solution, but still completely do-able solo. Minh's ability allows you to get a 3 Fight boost off of Overpower, bringing you to 5. Not shabby at all.

Investigation:

Magnifying Glass, Deduction, Perception

Minh doesn't need much more than the basics in order to investigate. Any card that adds a Lore skill counts as 2, so you won't even struggle with high shroud locations

Utility:

Lucky!, Shortcut

Seeker cards are so strong, there are no other Survivor cards worth running, another than the extremely strong Lucky!. "Look what I found!" found almost makes it, but Minh does not need more investigation ability. An option would be to replace Perception with it, since it adds 2 Lore, but I don't think it's worth it due to the cost. Shortcut is an incredibly efficient card and I wish I could run 4.

Why don't you run:

Emergency Cache?

Don't need money. Half the deck is free and the rest is cheap.

No Stone Unturned?

We need quantity of cards, not quality. It would be useful to dig for Analytical Mind, but not worth the 2 cost.

General Strategy:

-Draw your deck and use at least one card a turn to take advantage of MInh's ability

-Try to end your character where other investigators are so that they can use your ability as well.

-Play out Analytical Mind as soon as possible if playing multiplayer - you will become the best support in the game.

-Feel free to pitch Strange Solution once you have discovered it. The double Wild icon from Minh's ability is very strong.

-Use Skill cards at every opportunity (if you might fail a test) to cycle your deck.

Upgrade Path:

  1. Upgrade 2x Strange Solution to 2x Combat Strange Solution (4 exp each). If you earn 5 exp in the first scenario, upgrade Magnifying Glass.
  2. Add in Cryptic Research x2 and replace Preposterous Sketches or Manual Dexterity. Again, if you have leftover exp, upgrade Magnifying Glass
  3. Your choice! The deck is now complete and extremely powerful.

NO, we actually don't need the disgustingly broken Higher Education, as we don't have any money and we don't need it. Passing skill test will be easy without it, trust me.

This deck can be played multiplayer or solo with great effectiveness, though it shines in multiplayer with Analytical Mind and allowing others to use your ability. Most importantly, it is VERY fun to play. You feel like you are supporting your allies, while at the same time passing skill tests easily!

Serious question - if your goal with this deck is purely to put as many cards in your hand as possible and dedicate them towards skill checks, then why not include Rabbit's Foot?

Sep 18, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@TelosaGenerally you won't be failing skill tests unless you pull a tentacle. I love Rabbit's Foot, but I've seen some numbers that suggest its not worth playing. It costs a card and a resource to play, so you're already down a card. You need to draw 2 cards to be ahead, and then you're still down a resource. I can't think of a card in the deck that is worse than it, so I didn't include it. Thanks for your question!

Sep 18, 2017 Arrdet · 13

What sort of difficulty and player count is this deck intended for? I've had great value from Rabbit's Foot with Minh (Hard/4p) because it's not practical to run every skill test at +5 so failure is fairly frequent and in a deck this cheap the resource cost is no cost at all. I also stuck with Milan over the Lab assistant for the +1 books, similar to yourself I don't have a huge cost on my deck so his resource ability was of limited value, I'm still unsure if this was a good more or not. I included Dark Horse because I really really wanted to play the card and this seemed like the deck to make that happen in but it turned out to be an excellent choice. No Stone Unturned to try and get to Analytical Mind as fast as possible is also a really solid card. I included Strange Solution because I'd found the fight upgrade to be amazing when playing with Rex but tbh in a 4p game I probably wouldn't bother if I built my deck again and go more specialised to clue hoovering. Barricade is also a really nice card in this because of its 3 icon spread and being 0 cost should you ever actually be in a position where it's useful.

Sep 18, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@ArrdetThis deck is intended for standard difficulty solo or multiplayer with up to 3 people. On hard rabbits foot becomes much more valuable, yes. Lab assistant is great for cycling. I also worry Milan will be discarded by effects since we have low asset count. I have tried Dark Horse in other decks and really disliked it. Not having money to play events is more annoying than I would have liked. If I had 2 more slots I would include no stone unturned. Would you remove something in the deck for it? Barricade is an interesting option. The 3 icons are nice for sure. I think it's easier just to kill the monsters though .

Sep 18, 2017 Arrdet · 13

I've really wanted "I've got a plan!" to be good in other seeker decks and have almost never got any value out of it, I think it's far too situational. That would be my choice to drop for it. The difference between games with and without Analytical Mind is huge so I think it's well worth investing in No Stone Unturned and it's always a icon if you don't need it. I've always cut Dark Horse from other decks because I couldn't live with no resources but I think it helps get your static and checks up to where you can easily scoop clues and deal with treachery cards so you can use all your other cards for skill checks elsewhere or take advantage or zero cost events.

Sep 18, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

That may work in multiplayer, but I think you may struggle in solo with no way to kill big enemies until you get upgraded strange solution. I agree it's situational, but it is also extremely powerful. I will have consider putting in no stone unturned, but may remove manual dexterity instead...

With minhs int score and access to Magnifying Glass she's likely to exceed checks. So did you consider Scavenging to recover items that you may commit?

I know this will need a bigger modification of the deck to include more items, which may slow you down. You could add (all 2x) Rabbit's Foot, Old Book of Lore, Leather Coat and Elder Sign Amulet just to commit them. Only play them if you really need their effects (like stam/san soak).

Sep 18, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@DjangoScavenging with items is definitely something I considered, but my problem was the item cards aren't as useful as other seeker cards that I could be running. When you draw a lot of cards and most of your skills cycle, you will find that you simply don't need to recur cards and spend time setting your engine up. Definitely would be something fun to try though.

Ive tried a similar strategy in Minh and I can confirm it is indeed very much fun. Its no Milan/Higher ed rex but who wants to play a ringer anyway. The game has been in need of an alternative style of seeker to keep it interesting. High draw + pips does indeed look like that for me.

A few recommendations based on my experience - warning minor dunwich spoilers incoming:

1) Drawing through your deck in dunwich likely to kill you (spoiler) if your not packing protection. Im using an ally & A Chance Encounter build to get around it. Between her natural 7 HP and a carefully timed The Red-Gloved Man you can survive it once. with charisma you can use the Laboratory Assistant for an extra 1 hp (I had Art Student too) and something like a 1x Leather Coat wouldnt go amiss, though i use Fine Clothes. Between all that you then have 2/3 direct damage you can safely afford over the course of the game without rendering the Red-Gloves soak slightly too few. There are other cards which trigger off the number of cards in your discard pile too, including chaos bag tokens, which as far as I can see cant be avoided. You just have to play around them really.

2) The double pipped investigate events like Working a Hunch and/or "Look what I found!" are more useful than the look at first glance (taking both may be over kill). While you might not have the cash in this set up to play lots of 2 cost events, it gives you the option to use them occasionally. Where the double are really handy is in dealing with The King in Yellow quickly. That 1 per test on Perception and Unexpected Courage can be a pain at times. I actually dropped Inquiring Mind in favour of "Look what I found!" since it didnt come with a clue restriction 3 pips (2+minh ability) is enough outside of The King in Yellow restrictions and they offer a back up incase Magnifying Glass has not turned up or has somehow gone away.

3) The cash thing can be limiting if your expecting to use 2x "I've got a plan!" and get Analytical Mind down. I reluctantly swapped my Lucky!s out in favor of Emergency Cache II (has draw) and never looked back. This also let me use Higher Education intermittently, which sounds counter intuitive, but this saves you burning cards in places (you always have the hand size here). But I guess theres an argument for not having to play both copies if your short on cash. Mind over Matter gives you a cheaper alternative and if you end up with two copies of plan, afterall any card can be pips at a whim and those arnt bad icons.

Im going to stop here briefly incase you dont want to read the bottom one for spoiler reasons to say again great deck! and I hope you have as much fun as I did with this play style. May your chaos bag be kind generous and your draws be fruitful :)

4) Carcosa has its own issues that im reluctant to spoil here since its so new. without spoiling too much (STOP HERE IF YOUVE NOT PLAYED CARCOSA), you might want a way of getting those mag glasses back otherwise you will find yourself reliant on pips alone. You also might not want to rely on clues being on locations for your Preposterous Sketches and Inquiring Minds. I learned both these lessons the hard way on my blind run :)

Sep 19, 2017 Django · 5063

Funny thing is, with a similar deck and Scavenging you might even use Baseball Bat, as you can get it back if it breaks.

Completely diffenerent question, the text in brackets of minhs ability is confusing me, english is not my native tongue. I don't understand to what is limited by "once per turn", the person benefiting from the or the investigator commiting a card?

Example for each version: During her turn, minh makes an check, daisy commits a card to it and minh uses her ability, to add a . So minh used her ability on a card from daisy and benefited from her own ability.

  1. Roland makes a test during his turn and daisy commits her second card this round. Could Minh use her ability? In this example, minh uses her ability again on a card from daisy, but a different investigator benefits from the .
  2. Minh makes another check and roland commits a card. In this example, the same person benefits from her ability again, but the skill card was commited by another investigator.

Sep 19, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@StartWithTheNameFantastic points all around. I would be interested in seeing your build . I was thinking of taking out I've got a plan once the upgraded solutions come in. That would free up cash.

@DjangoI agree it is not worded well. The way I interpret it is each investigator can have one of their skill cards buffed my Minh each round. So the same investigator could receive a minh-buffed skill card as many times as they want, but each investigator can only buff one card of their own per round.

Sep 26, 2017 degnanigans · 17

Great deck, I appreciate your explanations in the comments. I derived my own 4 player only Minh. The basic difference being even more card while being largely unable to defend herself before Upgraded Strange Solution comes online.

Sep 27, 2017 Ebrey · 238

Very solid Minh build, I was skeptical of new Milan, but you're right that it doesn't really need money. The extra hand size from lab assistant was very useful! My friend played this in a 3 player Carcosa campaign with Mark and Sefina, and Minh was quite useful.

Sep 28, 2017 vikingskarsnik · 2

I started a carcosa campaing with my friend playing Yorrick. In the first scenario I started with pulling the tentacle twice in a row, followed by my friend who drew it also....what a start. Still after such a start, we ended the scenario succesfully (both resigned) and with 6 exp. I had 11 resources left or something at the end, so it Milan wasn't missed. I also identified the solution. So I will be upgrading to 1 combat solution and save 2 exp to get the other one asap.

Why not pack in x2 copies of resourceful to recur cards like Lucky, and perhaps rise to the occasion (if you cud find space to pack it in?)

Oct 01, 2017 StartWithTheName · 68299

hey @Dreadreaper!, cheers! I dont really have a single build per se to show you im afraid, i have just tried a good few directions with her while trying to find an alternative seeker play style to the usual milan/higher ed world for demoing reasons.

The current version of my red gloves/ally spam build I was mentioning is this. Though I realise this is a quite a different direction to the draw endlessly approach. If I ever find the time on day ill try to get it published with piloting notes. Also be warned there are some campaign log entries (and spoilers) in the notes if you view following decks. Im not going to claim it to be a powerhouse or anything but it is at least a lot of fun to run. I managed to kill off 6 "cameos" in the first scenario of Carcosa partly shielding damage and partly for comedy value :)

I do worry that part of my advice (point 3.) re cash flow might have been influenced by my deck needing a little more cash for ally spam and in hindsight may not be as important of an issue for yours here. Feel free to disregard.

In terms of experience with pure draw though, ive had a look over some old decks and my very early (please dont judge me!) experience with drawing through the deck (Dunwich encounter deck spoiler) painfully was using table top sim to take this deck through the parts of dunwich that were published at that time. Note the deck notes for Resourceful & Lantern card swaps - neither they nor minh were on arkhamdb at that time.

I should say I still havent resolved the (CARCOSA ENCOUNTER DECK SPOILER AHEAD) asset retention issue in carcosa that simply murders Mag Glasses in a low asset concentration deck. Annoyingly becasue its a Carcosa big box encouter set its likely to keep coming back over and over in the campaign. I suspect Resourceful/Lantern is the designer intended way to get around it but this is 1) slow to keep re-installing, 2) not that cheap and 3) doesnt work with MORE CARCOSA SPOILERS. Alternatively a Scavenging build might work but this requires a large number of item assets to justify it and I can tell you from (bad) experience that because the lvl 0 item assets to date just have 1 pip they can make a deck lock up when The King in Yellow lands if your running to many.

Oct 05, 2017 TheBrokenMeeple · 18

So what's the strategy when King In Yellow inevitably pops out in every game with the card draw? Overspend for other people's skill tests or just shove 6 pips on one skill test as fast as humanly possible, probably taking 2 if not 3 cards in the process. A lot of those skill cards are "max 1" which can be a pain.

Oct 05, 2017 Django · 5063

You cannot commit more than 1 card to tests of other people (see detailed description of "Skill Test Timing" on page 26, step 2: Commit cards from hand to skill test).

Her weakness prevents her from commiting cards to other peoples tests, so she has to deal with her weakness herself. However she can still use her ability on cards commited by other people and she can use it, when trying to burn the book. The test she is doing does not need to succeed, either (though chances are pretty good after commiting 6 icons).

Also note, that different icons do not count as "matching", while does (again, see skill timing from above).

Oct 12, 2017 vikingskarsnik · 2

I have now played the second scenario in the carcosa campaign and this deck is performing really well for me @ the standard diff. With my friend playing yorrick, we grabbed 17 clues. I failed only 1 skill check with a tentacle. All the rest were successes. Now to upgrade the deck with my 9 exp. How do you feel about pathfinder in this deck?

Oct 12, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@vikingskarsnikI think Pathfinder is too expensive for the deck, though the card is amazing. With 9 exp I would grab 1 strange solution 1 magnifying glass and 1 fast speed draw 3 whose name escapes me.

Dec 31, 2017 Dreadreaper · 6476

@Jeckyll Thanks! @SleightSoda- Its not a bad idea if you think you will run into it. You can also use the clue-drop cancel whose name escapes me. Might be better.

Just want to say that this deck is awesome to play. It also feels like I'm totally playing the character without need for roleplaying. The card selection and ability make it happen. Thanks for creating it.

Feb 02, 2018 Amoon · 2

Will be trying this deck within our new 4-player Carcosa campaign starting next week. ^^ After the release of The Pallid Mask i'll cut 1 Manual Dexterity and 1 Mind over Matter to make room for 2 Eureka!. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this build!

Mar 09, 2018 gpd924 · 1

I really wish there were decks on here that DON'T use 2 core sets. There's no way to filter out search results for only 1 core set. WTF. Seems like the only way to effectively use this website is if you own 2 core sets.

Mar 10, 2018 Django · 5063

Why would anyone limit themselves to just on 1 core? It's such a waste. Just print them out, the pix are all on the internet, including this site...

Jun 13, 2018 holybinch · 1

Just finished the second scénario of carcosa running this deck solo. Having a blast. Now I have 6 xp, so upgraded one strange solution. Question is what to do with the 2 remaining xp? Magnifying glasses? Keep them for a second solution post scénario 3? Décisions décisions.

Aug 12, 2019 Krysmopompas · 363

Just starting Carcosa with this one for the first time and man, is it fun! Also most popular player at the 3-player table... Would love to see this updated with new cards accounted for. I added in 2x Eureka! And 2x Ancient Glyphs, taking out one each of the double-skill cards except for Overpower. Seems to work fine. But now that I've got both Solutions transferred (I used Shrewd Analysis for fun and ended up with the Combat and the Evade options), and the Magnifying Glasses to 0 each - all after 1 scenario - I'm going to have to look at what to improve later on. This deck seems apt for a number of Permanent cards, chief among them Studious. Still...after another 10xp - maybe 2 more scenarios, leaving 5 more to go - really not sure what to replace without messing up the deck.

Oct 13, 2019 tap90 · 3

I cannot recommend this Deck playing Carcosa solo. I am missing evade or fight options

Aug 13, 2020 tickyny · 1

This is such a good deck! Paired her wtih Zoey and they killed it on the first two chapters of Path to Carcosa. Constant drawing and the good spread of icons (including wild icons) made it easier to get rid of the King in Yellow. Props to @Dreadreaper for this deck.

Re: Upgrades I went with Grisly Totem (3) and Death • XIII: Free from the Past (1). I think Grisly Totem synergizes very well with the deck's over all strategy, while te Death Tarot made it easier for Ming to get rid of the Man in the Pallid Mask.
